Celebration: The Declaration of Independence

The Knoxville Chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution and Children of the Revolution honor the Signers of the Declaration of the Independence in this annual event in the courtyard of James White’s Fort. Free Admission.

Knoxville Homecoming

Celebrate the Founding of our City at James White’s Fort with lifestyle demonstrations by reenactors from various time periods.   Activities and demonstrations will include blacksmithing, medicinal herbs, basket weaving, carpentry, spinning, leather, historic live chickens raising & eggs, militia, quill pen, open fire cooking, camp life, & clothing/sewing, & more.  Don’t miss the Author’s Area for local publications and other historically oriented crafts. Free Admission; donations gratefully accepted.

Open Hearth Cooking at the Fort

Cooking on the Open Hearth does not need to mean a dull meal. Come out and learn, through hands on practice, how to make a historically accurate Gourmet Meal. We will cover Baking, Roasting, Broiling, Frying, Sauces and several other styles of cooking, all on the open hearth. We will even make our own butter. Then…THE BEST PART! We will sit down and feast on what we have just created.

This workshop is limited to 20 participants so please be sure to purchase tickets soon! Cost is only $20 and the proceeds help James White’s Fort preserve our heritage.

Hearthscares Tour

The Walking Tour of Ghostly Knoxville

Come and join the spirits for a tour of Downtown Knoxville’s scariest landmarks. The tours which last approximately one and a half hours each, will visit the sites of some of Knoxville’s best kept secrets. Stories for this year include; the legend of Knoxville’s own Frankenstein, Knoxville’s first mass murderer, John Roberts, and the Spirit of the Tennessee Theatre. This year’s tour will also include the story of “Hank’s Last Ride” and will be about one and a half miles in length.

All tours began and end at James White’s Fort located at the intersection of Hill Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive. Ample free parking is available for tour participants at the Fort.  Tours will depart at 7:00 p.m. each evening. Each tour will end with a marshmallow roast around the fires at the Fort.

Admission for Adults 16 and over will be $10.00 and $6.00 for children ages 6–15. Reservations are requested for large groups of 12 or more and may be made by calling the Fort at 525–6514.
