Warren L. Bingham is an acclaimed speaker and writer with a commanding grasp of Southern history, culture, and lore. Bingham has long focused on George Washington’s “Southern Tour”—the president’s 1791 visit to Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. His research and presentations on the Tour have culminated in a book, George Washington’s 1791 Southern Tour, released in February 2016 by The History Press. This fall, Bingham and his book will be featured on UNC-TV’s North Carolina Bookwatch—and he’ll lecture at Mount Vernon.
The North Carolina native has addressed audiences ranging from book clubs and Colonial Dames to the North Carolina Bankers’ Association to the English Speaking Union—and has been the keynote speaker at seminal gatherings of The Wachovia Historical Society, The Society of the Cincinnati, the Jamestowne Society, New Bern’s George Washington commemoration, and at Historic Halifax Day. Bingham is the creator and on-air talent of “Carolina Color,” vignettes on North Carolina people, places, and products, broadcast on WPTF radio in Raleigh.
A contributor to The Dictionary of North Carolina Biography, The Encyclopedia of North Carolina, and to North Carolina—An Appetizing State, Bingham also has been published in numerous newspapers, including the Roanoke Times, Raleigh’s News & Observer and the North State Journal. Bingham earned a degree in U.S. History from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Masters in Liberal Studies from Hollins. He splits his time in Raleigh and Blowing Rock, NC.
